SCHOFIELD BARRACKS ? U.S. Army Health Clinic-Schofield Barracks presented its new Interdisciplinary Pain Management Clinic, or IPMC, to the post during an open house, July 17, here.

Schofield Barracks? IPMC is the Army?s first satellite pain management clinic. Eventually, the same pain services offered at Tripler Army Medical Center will be offered at USAHC-SB.

?The Army?s Pain Task Force called for IPMCs to be placed at the major medical centers with the goal of supporting the (Warrior Transition Units) and the Soldiers, but we have a satellite, allowing our expertise and service to go to the Soldiers, instead of (having) the Soldier come to (the medical center),? said Maj. Brian McLean, chief, Pain Medicine and Interventional Pain Services, TAMC.

?Currently we provide acupuncture, medical massage, pain physician evaluations and pain psychology, but in the next fiscal year we plan to expand to also offer chiropractic and interventional pain management services, as well as clinical pharmacy.?

Currently, TAMC?s IPMC sees more than 100 patients a day, while USAHC-SB sees approximately 100 patients a week; however, the plan is to expand. Schofield?s clinic is currently only serving active duty members, but the plan is to see family members and retirees in the near future.

?Pain is the most frequent reason that patients seek medical care,? said Col. Mary Krueger, commander, USAHC-SB. ?More than 50 million Americans suffer from some sort of acute or chronic pain, (and) this leads to not only significant disability, but lost time from work and, also, lost quality of life, which is probably most important of all.

?Science has shown that really comprehensive pain management ? the type modeled by our Integrative Pain Team here at Schofield and TAMC ? is the best way to approach solving these pain issues for these patients, returning them to (life and work),? she added.

Brig. Gen. Keith Gallagher, commander, Pacific Regional Medical Command and TAMC, believes that the new satellite clinic is going to be a game changer in the treatment of acute and chronic pain of Schofield?s Soldiers and Warriors in Transition.

?You have to be excited about providing a new service at Schofield Barracks that, I believe, is going to change how Soldiers deal with pain in the future,? Gallagher said while addressing USAHC-SB staff. ?Soldiers will no longer have to drive all the way down to TAMC (to get pain-management care).?

Gallagher encouraged Soldiers and staff to spread the word about the new clinic and its services.

?(This clinic) is in the art of healing,? Gallagher said. ?They have the disciplines and the staff necessary to make this (clinic) a game changer for the Soldiers here at Schofield Barracks.?

Jennifer Lopez and Casper Smart Threaten Legal Action Over Tabloid Cover Stories

Casper Smart frequent exotic massage parlors and/or is a homosexual seeking fast and easy one-night stands.

So claim a pair of tabloid cover stories this week, both of which have prompted Jennifer Lopez and her boyfriend to threaten lawsuits against the publications behind them.

The first, from In Touch, quotes a couple of employees at a massage parlor in New York City who allege Smart has stopped by for appointments there twice in the last month.

Star, meanwhile, asserts that the dancer was caught at a peep show in the Big Apple last month, somewhere that's a "well-known cruising spot for gay men looking for instant hookups."

According to TMZ, the couple's attorneys, Shawn Holley and Howard Weitzman, have sent letters to both magazine warning that the "reports" are "false, malicious and defamatory" and will cause "immense damage" to Jennifer and Casper's careers and reputations. They pair will follow up with legal action unless retractions are printed.

No response so far from In Touch or Star.

China divers claim fourth straight gold

China's Qin Kai and Luo Yutong won the men's 3m synchronised springboard gold medal on Wednesday to make it four Chinese victories from four diving events at the London Olympics.

Qin and Luo tallied 477.00 points from their six dives to win from Russia's Ilya Zakharov and Evgeny Kuznetsov, who took silver, and the US pairing of Kristian Ipsen and Troy Dumais, who finished with the bronze medal.

Having won seven out of eight diving events when they staged the Beijing Games four years ago, China are on course for a Games clean sweep, having won all 10 diving golds at the 2011 world aquatic championships.

Qin, who retained the Olympic title he won alongside partner Wang Feng in Beijing, and said he was delighted to continue China's domination.

"I think Chinese divers have done a great job so far, we have four golds now and they all came with perfect performances," said the 26-year-old, who also won bronze in the individual competition four years ago.

The Russian pair explained how they both dipped their medals in the pool at the Aquatic Centre after leaving the dais to bring more luck to their compatriots in the swimming and diving events.

"We are really pleased to get silver, it's a great feeling," said Zakharov, who along with partner Kuznetsov won world silver behind the Chinese in Shanghai last year.

America's Ipsen and Dumais collected the United States' third diving medal in three days.

"There are no regrets, we didn't watch the scoreboard and we just focused on ourselves," said 32-year-old Dumais, who claimed his first Olympic medal at his fourth Games, with 19-year-old Ipsen making his debut in London.

After David Boudia and Nicholas McCrory of the United States won bronze on Monday in the men's 10m synchronised dive, America's Kelci Bryant and Abigail Johnston took silver on Tuesday in the women's synchronised 3m springboard.

"It's really been a dream. I competed in Sydney and at Athens with my brother, which didn't go so well, so this medal is also for him," said Dumais.

"I think all three USA pairings are enjoying their Olympic experience, it is great to have taken three medals from three events."

Reigning world champions, Luo and Qin led from the first round and stamped their authority with an impressive forward four-and-a-half somersault with a tuck on their fifth dive which earned them 104.88 points.

Their final dive scored only 89.10, but it was still more than enough to make it four from four in the diving pool for China as they finished 17 points clear of the field -- a considerable margin in diving.

Why Drone Pilots Deserve Medals

If we mark military prowess merely by personal physical exposure, then yes, a blurry line has been crossed as Air Force pilots move from, as Blair put it, ?ten thousand feet? to ?ten thousand miles.? That makes it more difficult to justify awarding traditional combat medals to drone pilots. But that is where the proposed drone-pilot medals come in: They will help retain the meaning of existing medals, award those who perform their duties exceptionally, and, perhaps most importantly, could also help address, rather than exacerbate, a popular concern: that drones diminish accountability. Don?t we want drone pilots to be aware of their great responsibilities and to be rewarded for exercising them honorably? The proposed Distinguished Warfare Medal makes sense because it recognizes that drone pilots are engaged in deadly serious warfare. In a context where sparing civilian lives should be of the utmost importance, formalities that set apart flying a drone from playing a video game should be welcomed, not castigated. (As the New York Times? Elisabeth Bumiller reported this week, in some ways drone warfare is actually more intimate than flying fighter planes.) The flight suits drone pilots wear presumably serve the same ends.

Agriculture More Than Ever ? Leadership from agriculture's new ...

These are exciting times. Enthusiasm in the ag industry is at an all-time high. Interest from outside our industry to become involved in ag has never been stronger. And the number of specialists and experts offering tips and feedback to our industry is at an unprecedented level.

But who are the best people to speak up for our industry? Who in agriculture will make an impact with urban and non-industry audiences?? Smart, passionate, articulate young farmers and young agricultural professionals ? that?s who.

I believe no one can do this better. They?re actively involved and invested in our industry. They?re making a personal commitment to ensure business success, land and animal stewardship, and the production of safe, quality food and food ingredients.

Young, tech-savvy farmers and agricultural professionals that have business skills and entrepreneurial passion are leaders in ag communities across Canada. They?re the new generation and their dedication will keep our industry strong.

One of my great joys in life is working with this new generation of leaders. As a mentor to a young farm couple, and three rapidly growing entrepreneurial businesses, I get to share my experiences and watch how they turn challenges into opportunity and success ? that?s the fun job of being a mentor. I believe others from my generation can really make a difference by becoming mentor.

If you?re a mentee, don?t be afraid to ask questions.? If you want to meet with someone, or you have a question, ask. My experience is that people are almost always willing to help a member of the younger generation who asks a reasonable question. I also suggest you work hard in expanding your network ? ask to meet with people you?ve never met, travel and try to experience what others are doing in your local area, across the province or around the world.

And mentors, tell stories not lectures. I?ve noticed people respond much better when I convey a story or experience rather than telling them what I think they should do.

I honestly believe the passion and energy of the younger generation, combined with the experience and connections of my generation can bring significant progress to our industry.

The image of agriculture in the eyes and minds of consumers and investors could do with an upgrade. And I can think of no better face to lead the way than the profile of agriculture?s new generation.

High Trans-Fat Diet Predicts Aggression

If you want to keep your cool, you might want to pass up those greasy wings and gooey dessert. A new study from the University of California, San Diego, suggests that people whose diets are higher in trans fats are more prone to aggression.

Trans fats, or hydrogenated oils, have made the news in recent years because studies have strongly linked them to heart disease and cancer, and some locales have passed laws restricting their use. They are still common, however, in restaurant food and many grocery items.

Beatrice Golomb, a physician and associate professor of medicine at U.C. San Diego, wondered if trans fats might affect behavior, after noting how they interact with a type of healthy fat. Past studies found that docosahexaenoic acid?or DHA, a long-chain omega-3 fatty acid?has a calming, antidepressant effect. Trans fats disrupt the chemical process that leads to the conversion of fatty acids into DHA, which led Golomb to suspect that trans fats might be linked to aggression.

Her study, which was published in March in PLoS ONE, involved 1,018 men and women older than 20 who filled out a food questionnaire and several other surveys that measure impatience, irritability and aggression. Even after considering other influences, Golomb's team found a strong link between the intake of trans fats and aggression. ?Trans-fatty acids were a more consistent predictor of aggression than some traditional risk factors such as age, male sex, education and smoking,? Golomb says. The findings were consistent across both sexes and across all ages, ethnicities and socioeconomic groups.

Although the correlation was strong, the study does not prove that trans fats are causing the aggressive behavior. It is possible that naturally aggressive people tend to eat less healthy food. Or perhaps other ingredients found in processed foods, such as added sugars, are the real culprit. ?We like to think we're in charge of our behaviors, but in fact there are many factors that influence us, food being one of them,? Golomb says.

British give Brazil a scare before falling in basketball

Unfancied Britain battled Brazil to the verge of an Olympic men's basketball shocker on Tuesday before falling in the final seconds 67-62 in a round-robin matchup.

Tiago Splitter of the NBA San Antonio Spurs scored 21 points and Marcelinho Huertas added 13 points to lift Brazil level with Spain and Russia atop Group B at 2-0. Britain joined China and Australia at 0-2.

"When you face adversity like that and you still win, that makes you stronger," Huertas said.

Britain's Pops Mensah-Bonsu had 13 points and 12 rebounds while Nate Reinking added 13 points and Luol Deng of the NBA Chicago Bulls 12 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

"We played at a high level," British coach Chris Finch said. "To be in position to win the game in the last four minutes, I was pleased. If you put yourself there enough times you can win."

Two free throws by Splitter gave Brazil a 56-51 lead, but back-to-back 3-pointers by Deng gave Britain a 57-56 edge with 3:56 remaining and put the Olympic hosts within reach of a stunning upset.

Splitter sank a layup, Marquinhos Veira Sousa followed with a 3-pointer and Nene Hilario of the NBA Washington Wizards slammed in a dunk to give the South Americans a six-point cushion.

"We didn't have a good night shooting the ball but we still hit important threes at the end of the game," Splitter said.

Joel Freeland got a basket on a goaltending call against Hilario but Splitter answered with a layup, then Deng was fouled by Alex Garcia attempting a 3-point shot, sending Deng to the free throw line for three crucial attempts.

Deng made only 1-of-3, trimming Brazil's lead to 65-60, but Huertas followed with two free throws to seal Britain's fate.

"We were fighting the whole way," Reinking said. "It just comes down to making plays. We just have to break through and get a win."

Their next chance comes Thursday against reigning European champion Spain.

"We're not here for people to tell us we did a good job," Britain's Drew Sullivan said. "We're here to win games. We didn't get it done in the end."

Britain seized a surprise 11-4 lead after a first quarter in which neither side found a shooting touch, the Brazilians hitting a miserable 2-of-20 shots from the field in the period while the Olympic hosts were a woeful 4-of-15.

"That never happened to me before in my life, to score only four points in a quarter," Brazil coach Magnano Ruben said.

The game was deadlocked 27-27 at half-time and stayed tight in the third quarter, Britain making 5-of-6 from the field to open the second half while Brazil missed 5-of-7 free throws to open the third quarter.

"It's clear we won the match thanks to our defence," Ruben said.

Dan Clark hit a 3-pointer and Reinking followed with an inside jumper and a 3-pointer to put Britain ahead 51-50 with 7:18 remaining, a wild cheer erupting from a sellout crowd.

"We just have to learn how to play down the stretch a bit better and get a victory," Clark said. "The fans were great. It doesn't get much better."
